Lymphatic massage is a form of gentle light strokes that mimic the flow of lymph in the body. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues. This massage assists the lymphatic system in maintaining the body's fluid balance, blood circulation, and immune mechanisms.
Lymph nodes, which filter out the debris, are found throughout the body, with three large groups being in the neck, armpits, and groin areas. During your massage session strokes are applied working towards these areas to help promote the flow of lymph.
This type of massage is very beneficial for someone who may have swelling in an area and needs assistance with getting the fluid moving again. I have seen a lot of edema in the legs with fluid retaining towards the ankles and lymphatic massage has helped reduce that.
I treat many clients who have had breast cancer and lymph nodes removed and are experiencing "pooling" or "swelling" and are having a heavy feeling in the arm. This type of massage has helped reduce the swelling and bring back normal flow of lymph and daily activity decreasing the use of having to wear a sleeve.
Lymphatic massage can benefit people who are experiencing the following as well:
fibromyalgia
swelling
skin disorders
fatigue
stress
digestive problems
arthritis
I will go over your health history with you before the start of your first session. It is very important to inform me of any lymph nodes that you may have had removed in your body. We can then formalize a treatment plan that is best suited for you.
